Principals for the Day

Third grader Sheridan Boyd and her sister, first grader Elizabeth Boyd, were "Principals for the Day" on Friday, May 22.   This event was an auction prize at the school spring carnival.  The girls got to make announcements, visit classrooms, make a book about their day, and have lunch with Mrs. Blower at Kasler's Diner in Amesville.

Dr. Wood Shares Love of Poetry

Superintendent Dr. Wood shared his love of poetry with Mrs. Gilmore' 3rd grade class.  "Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out" by Shel Silverstein, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, and "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Thayer were all read with Dr. Wood bringing props to share with students as well!  Mrs. Gilmore's class invited Dr. Wood to share his love of reading with them.  Thank you, Dr. Wood!

Last All-School Meeting

Amesville 2nd graders from Ms. Wadas' and Mrs. Thomas'/Mrs. Hays' classes sang their own version of "Let It Go" for our last all-school meeting.  Check out our Facebook page for all the lyrics!

Moving Up Day

All students at Amesville took part in our very first all-school "Moving Up Day" on May 15th. Students got to spend time in the next grade level to see what a typical activity for that grade might be in hopes of preparing for next year and reducing a little anxiety from students! While Preschool through 5th graders "moved up", 6th grade students worked with our specials' teachers and others to complete service projects that they had chosen. Some of those projects included sprucing up the gardens and walking paths, planting a Red Oak on the upper playground, discussing service and working in the school garden, and cleaning our playgrounds. Thank you to our 6th graders for their service to Amesville and for "giving back" to others!

Secondary Band Visits Amesville

Check out Ms. Messina as she keeps our percussion section going!  Students enjoyed a great performance from the Secondary Band on Friday, May 15th.  Our 5th and 6th grade band students joined in performing one song as well.   This concert marks Ms. Messina's final school concert at Amesville as she will be retiring.  Thank you, Ms. Messina, for your dedication to Amesville Elementary!

Celebrating Music and Art

Ms. Messina and Ms. Pearce worked together to create a very successful spring event!  Evening of the Arts celebrated music and art at Amesville Elementary.  Fifth and sixth grade band students performed a wonderful collection of songs.  Artwork from students in Grades K-6 was on display for all to enjoy.  Thank you to Ms. Messina and Ms. Pearce for all their hard work and dedication to our school.  Ms. Messina will be retiring at the end of this school year--Happy Retirement!

Ms. Reeves' and Mrs. Abele's "Rock Stars"

Amesville’s 4th grade students enjoyed having Aaron Reeves, Geologist from Inflection Energy, come into their classes and share information about rocks, minerals, and fossils.  Students enjoyed discovering what was inside geodes and the processes that formed them.  They were able to take home samples.

Fifth Grade Castle Project

The Fifth Grade classes at Amesville Elementary recently completed a project-based learning activity where each student built his/her own castle. Students had to include geometric concepts, find the perimeter of the castle wall, and the volume of the largest rectangular prism used in the construction. The students also had to write the directions on how to build their castle.

Family Science Night

Amesville Elementary hosted Family Science Night on April 16, 2015.  164 parents and students came out for the event!  With snakes, plants, static electricity demonstrations, geodes, and a ping-pong cannon just to name a few of the events, the evening was quite exciting!  Several parents said this was the best family night yet! Visit Federal Hocking's Facebook page or more information and photographs of this event!  Thanks to Ms. Gallaher for organizing this event for our school community!

First Grade Authors' Party

"I do not like green eggs and ham.  I do not like them, Sam-I-Am!"  Students in Ms. Lathrop's and Mrs. Zeisler's First Grade classrooms held an Authors' Party to celebrate completing their study of Dr. Seuss.  Students had written books with lots of rhyming based upon Green Eggs and Ham.  Some students also shared non-fiction books that they had finished.  Lots of great reading, super listening, and giggles all around!
