Athletic and extra-curricular practices/programs suspended until further notice.

After several communications with the High School Administration over the weekend and this morning, I am ordering all athletic and extra-curricular practices/programs suspended until further notice.  This includes all activities on our campus involving youth through varsity sports. The rapid increases in cases in Athens County makes our community one of the fastest growing areas for COVID infection per capita in the country.  While we are not aware of cases directly related to our athletic programs at this time, I feel it is in the best interest of our community to put in place greater restrictions for the time being until we have a better understanding of the degree of community spread.  This directive is in place effective immediately and to run at least through Monday, July 27, 2020.

2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR

Good afternoon,
I hope you and your families are safe and well. I have delayed sharing information about the 2020-2021 school year until schools received the ReSet and ReStart Education Guidelines from the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Health.  I know many parents are considering or have decided that their student should not return to school until there is a vaccine or community spread of the virus is no longer a concern. Please be advised that Federal Hocking will provide a 100% remote learning option for those who prefer it for the upcoming school year.

As cases continue to increase parents should be aware that Federal Hocking is planning for three options for the 2020-21 school year. The option used will correlate with the data published in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. The options are:

  1. Having students back 5 days a week. This plan will not allow us to follow the guidelines recommended by ODE, ODH, and the CDC. Based on current data this is not likely at the present time.
  2. Blended learning. Approximately 50% of our students would attend two days a week for face-to-face instruction and have remote learning the other days. All of the guidelines mentioned above will be followed.
  3. A third plan is full remote learning for all students.

Next week parents will receive a survey asking to you to tell us whether you will use the remote learning option or will send your student to school (circumstance permitting). You will also receive information with more details about each of the options mentioned above.  Please know that any face-to-face instruction will strictly follow the ODE and CDC guidelines to keep students and staff safe.

Thank you and have a safe weekend.

Sincerely,
David Hanning
