Today's poem is based on the classic "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Thayer...my apologies to the author
Lancers in the Snow
The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Lancers on that day
As thermometers showed termperatures that from freezing had not strayed
Deep into the night the cold air blew, the weather was not nice
Everyone knew that the daylight would bring back roads covered in ice
Oh somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light
And somewhere buses are running, and classrooms are all aglow
But there is not joy in Lancer Land as school is still closed for snow
Yes, Federal Hocking Schools will be closed on Friday, January 30th. However, at this time we do intend to open on Monday, Feb. 2 with a two hour delay and bus plan A. So, closed tomorrow, opening on Monday. Stay warm!
My poetry is not all that bad
But when the phone rings parents are sad
Yet the children all say
Let's sleep in then go play
Because another snow day is to be had
There you go, for Thursday, January 29th, Federal Hocking Schools will be closed. We are doing what we can but the back roads are still covered with snow and the deep freeze every night just ices them over. As stated earlier this week, we will be adding make up days. We will keep you informed.
Update from the Class of 2029! "THE SOUPER BOWL: THIRD TIME IS CHARM" is now scheduled for Friday, Feb. 13th, and this will happen prioir to the Varsity Boys' Senior Night home game. Come grab a hearty and healthy dinner before the game, and support a great cause.

First there was snow and then there was sleet
Making it hard to stay on your feet
But our custodians they were up to the task
Clearing sidewalks and lots so that we could pass
But alas the element they have conspired
The back roads still won't hold on to your tires
And that is why I am calling to say
Tomorrow will be another snow day
That's correct, for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28th Federal Hocking Schools will be closed.
To hear my voice with a poem I've comprised
As we all expected, having been detected
The snow is coming down and covering the groud
Now the temperture is dropping, causing snow melt stopping,
Making all the roads a mess, despite crews trying thier best
So there's no need to delay, in having to say
Federal Hocking schools are closed for the next two days
For Monday, January 26th and Tuesday, January 27th, Federal Hocking Schools will be closed. We wanted to give families plenty of time to plan for this closure. Also, as this takes us beyond five days of closures, we will be adding days to the school calendar for make up. Once we have returned to school, we will let you know when the make up days will be scheduled.
A reminder that the SOUPER BOWL, take 2 is approaching! Please come on Friday, Jan 30th and support the Class of 2029. It is a great way to make Friday dinner easy, and then stay for the boys game if you want. Unlimited chili, hearty soups, desserts and drinks. Tickets are $10. See you there!

Some of the snow decided to stick
And that is why we're calling to say

We wanted you to know that today we sent home with all students the new handbook rules again explaining that all personal communication devices (cell phones, watches, ipads, computers, etc.) are, as of January 1, prohibited during school hours as per state law. Further, while students may bring such devices to school, they must be turned off and stored in their lockers. The handbook page we are sending home explains the consequences of refusing to follow this rule.
If your child did not bring the handbook page home to you, it can be found on our website. We appreciate your cooperation with this new state law and school board policy.
